The problem is that the current image is in the "phone mode". In order to get the on screen keyboard to be displayed you have to get the device in the tablet mode. As far as I remember you can accomplish that by changing the dpi settings...

I forgot to mention that forcing the device in the tablet mode will crash the settings menu. That's because there's no ethernet image available for the tablet dpi settings. So don't forget to add one...
